Gwent Touring Band, a Welsh band, visited Menorca thanks to Rotary Club of Menorca’s sponsorship. The band offered a series of free performances, which have left only good memories on the island thanks to the band’s professional and human qualities.

Their performances began with a procession on Good Friday in Mahon, with the band playing appropriate religious pieces of music.

The band also participated in the procession in Mahón that recreates the moment when Mary and Jesus met each other on Easter Sunday, performing with enthusiasm and commitment, much to onlookers’ satisfaction.

In the evening, the band performed a concert at the home of one of our members, which was attended by club members, their families and friends. This informal atmosphere gave us the opportunity to get to know each other better.

On Easter Monday, the band performed another concert, in Alaior’s Cultural Centre, part of which was performed with the Cultural Centre’s Choir, much to the audience’s delight. The band members paid for their own travel to the island, with the club funding their accommodation and internal travel once in Menorca.

On Tuesday 10th of April, the band performed another concert in Es Mercadal’s Multifunction Hall, which was very popular. The band performed pieces of many different musical styles to a professional standard.

Rotary Club Menorca is very grateful to the Gwent Touring Band, and to Alaior’s Casa de Cultura, Es Mercadal’s Multifunction Hall, Mahón Town Hall’s government, the Mendez/Baiges family, El Picadero restaurant and the church authorities that have participated in the organisation of these activities. All money raised will be used by the Club for local projects.
